The Kerala Public Service Commission (Kerala PSC) has released the official notification for the recruitment of Sub Inspector of Police (Trainee) under Category Nos. 448/2025, 449/2025, and 450/2025. This recruitment provides an excellent opportunity for eligible male and female candidates to join the Kerala Police (Civil Branch), one of the most reputed law enforcement departments in the State.

Applications must be submitted online through the Kerala PSC One Time Registration (OTR) profile. Candidates are strongly advised to read the notification carefully and ensure that they meet all eligibility conditions before submitting the application.

Vacancy Details

The number of vacancies will be determined by the Kerala Police Department and allocated across:

  • Open Merit
  • Ministerial Wing
  • Constabulary Wing

All appointments will follow the rules of communal reservation and rotation as per Kerala Government norms.


Age Limit (As on 01.01.2025)

Category I – Open Merit

  • 20 to 31 years
  • Candidates must be born between 02.01.1994 and 01.01.2005 (both dates inclusive).

Category II – Ministerial

  • Should not exceed 36 years.

Category III – Constabulary

  • Should not exceed 36 years.

Upper-age relaxations will apply as per Part II of Kerala PSC General Conditions.


Educational Qualification

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University.
  • Candidates claiming equivalent qualifications must produce the required Government orders/equivalency certificates when demanded.

Physical Standards

Candidates must satisfy the following physical measurements without fail.

For Male Candidates

Measurement Requirement
Height 165 cm (160 cm for SC/ST)
Chest – Normal 81 cm
Chest – Expansion Minimum 5 cm

For Female Candidates

Measurement Requirement
Height 160 cm (155 cm for SC/ST)

Note: No visual or measurement relaxation except for SC/ST candidate height.


Visual Standards (Both Male & Female)

Candidates with squint or any morbid eye condition will be rejected.


Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates must qualify in any five (5) out of the eight (8) events listed below.

Throwing the Throw Ball 1400 cm
Shuttle Race (25 m x 4) 20 seconds
Skipping 80 times per minute

Candidates who fail the PET will not receive a second chance.


Training & Service Conditions

Selected candidates will undergo:

  • 1 year of institutional training at the Police Training College
  • Followed by 18 months of practical training in Police Stations

During the training period, candidates are governed strictly by the Police Training College rules. Successful completion of training is mandatory for appointment as Sub Inspector of Police.
